Lassen County Chamber of Commerce Update
Patti Hagata, Executive Director

If your club or business has selected event dates for 2009 please forward the information to the Chamber so that we can add it to the Community Calendar of Events.

Listing your event on the calendar helps avoid scheduling conflicts and helps to keep everyone informed about your event.

The information can be emailed to director@visitlassen.com, faxed to 251-2561 or call 257-4323. Anyone can access the Chamber Community Calendar of Events by visiting our website at www.visitlassen.com and clicking on “event calendar” located to the left of the home page.

Tickets are now on sale for the 22nd Annual “A Taste of Beef, A Sip of Wine” event that is hosted by the Lassen County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen. Tickets can be purchased from any Cattlewomen’s member, the Pardner, or at the Chamber office; presale tickets are $28.00 per person.

The event is planned for Friday, February 6, 2009 and will be held at the Susanville Elk’s Lodge, from 5:30 to 8:30pm. For more information you can contact Melissa at 251-8900.

The Chamber will celebrate the 121st Annual Membership Gathering and Awards Night on Friday, January 30th at the Susanville Elk’s Lodge, beginning at 6pm.

The evening will include introduction of 2009 officers and board members. 2008 award recipients will be honored and will include announcement of “Volunteer of the Year”, “Chamber Member of the Year” and “Chamber Business of the Year”.

In appreciation of Chamber business members, each business membership will receive 2 free tickets to attend; additional tickets are $10.00 per person. Prepaid reservations must be made by Monday, January 26th.

The Chamber membership and the community are encouraged to attend and join this special celebration; for more information or to RSVP contact the Chamber at 257-4323.

The Chamber office will be relocating the last week January to our new location at 75 North Weatherlow, formerly the City of Susanville Park and Rec. Department.

The Chamber’s phone, fax, and mailing address will remain the same. We will have the office up and running by the first of February.

This Monday the Susanville Red Hat Sagebrush Divas met to enjoy warm Starbucks teas and coffees at the Safeway here in Susanville.

One of the Red Hat members saw the complimentary tea coupon in the Lassen County Times and called it to the attention of the rest of the group, who all thought it would be a great way to keep warm on these cold days.

About 20 ladies, dressed in purple and wearing their red hats, responded and we enjoyed the visit and tea and goodies presented to us by our local Safeway store.

Back row: Sandra Pearson, Cindy Lobuglio, Kris Mahan, Janet Corey and Safeway manager Kris Svendsen.  Middle row:  Marianne Slinkard,  Philurra Hasset, Vinita Justus  and Nancy Lansbury.  Seated:  Dorene Gardner,  Eleanor Smith, Doria Dalu and missing from the photo is Susan Taylor.

Principal of High School and One of His Students Lost on Diamond Mountain
January 21st, 1911

Principal Hendricks, of the Lassen County high school, and one of his students, Spencer Burroughs, who started from here rather late last Saturday to go to the top of Diamond Mountain, got on a short cut trail south of the Hulsman ranch and were lost for several hours.

Some concern was felt here over their lengthened absence, and an auto was sent out to the Hulsman ranch after them.  They were not there and the searching party could not find them.

However the principal and his pupil who had wandered along the mountain gorges to the east a number of miles, finally found themselves and returned to the Hulsman ranch none the worse for their long jaunt through the brush.
