In a press release issued by CBS television this week, the network announced that our own Maestro Ben Wade, will be one of 16 contestants on this season’s edition of Survivor.
Filming of the show, in the wild highlands of Brazil, began in September and ended mere days before Wade returned to Susanville for the Symphony’s Christmas performance in December.
Wade, who came to Susanville in 2002 to build a Women’s soccer program for Lassen College, now splits his time between coaching duties at Southwest Baptist University in Missouri and acting as conductor and artistic director for the Susanville Symphony.

“I’m in this game because I want to change it,” says Wade, “It’s become survival of the weakest. I want the strongest to survive. I want to team up with worthy opponents. May the best man or woman win."
Wade may be just the one to change the game, besides setting the world record for the longest solo kayak expedition on the ocean (6,132 miles), Wade has also been attacked by a tiger shark, stalked by a jaguar in the Amazon and has been bitten by a piranha on his right hand.

Other contestants this season include a cattle rancher, a 53 year old bus driver, two models and a corporate consultant from New York.
According to CBS press materials this Survivor venue is one of the most “rugged locations” ever and claimed the castaways will “battle scorching temperatures, torrential downpours, and dangerous wildlife.”
Survivor Tocantins premieres Thursday February 12th at 8pm on CBS. Click here to visit the official Survivor website. Click here to visit the Susanville Symphony Website.
