Lassen Reports Wave of Crimes
January 1949

A crime wave of break-ins in Susanville was climaxed with attempted burglary of Barron Chevrolet Thursday night.

In recent weeks Burr Automotive, Ted Corder Studebaker garage and the Railway Express office have been broken into with varying losses.

Money was stolen from cash registers at Burr's and at Corder's.  Nothing was stolen from either Barron Chevrolet or the Railway Express office, although they were rifled for money.

The cash register was also broken into at Barron's but it was empty.  Handles and combination were knocked off the safe in an effort to break into it.  Compartments of several cars in the garage were gone through, but nothing apparently taken.

A window in the room with the safe at the Coco-Cola Bottling Co. was broken last week, but no entrance gained.  A tire iron was used to break into the register at Corder's, and a screw driver was used to pry open the register in Burr's.  Entrance was gained through windows in each case.

At Barron's a window in a rest room was believed to have been unlatched during the day, and the burglar pushed it open and stepped in at night.
