For our link of the week we feature one of the neatest and most novel local websites around.
The good folks at Susanville Rotary have put together a blog featuring the adventures of the “Roaming Rotary Bell”.
The bell’s adventures began in December when, after growing weary of the constant headache of being rung by Rotarians, the brass one took off on adventures.
Since then the Roaming Rotary Bell has visited all sorts of cool places around the area. He stopped by Starbucks for coffee, was made a junior officer by the California Highway Patrol and even had his x-ray taken at Banner Lassen.

During the holidays the bell visited with the Salvation Army, checked out the Christmas Tree at the fire hall with Chief Stu and stopped by the radio station for his media debut.

You can follow all of the adventures of the Roaming Rotary Bell on his blog by clicking here.
According to the Rotary Bell’s online biography he was born in 1905 and likes breakfast, the Pledge of Allegiance and fines.
As with Rotary International, the Roaming Bell’s belief is in “Service above self”, following in a tradition of Rotary’s 91 years of growth and innovation.
January is Rotary Awareness Month, so if the bell comes ringing make sure you say hi and follow his adventures on the Rotary Roaming Bell blog.

Lassen Invokes Government Aid
January 13th, 1903
Petitions are out in Susanville, addressed to the Interior Department, and praying government aid, under the provisions of the Newlands bill, in the tapping of Eagle Lake. These petitions are being very generally signed.
|
One thing now appears reasonably certain, and that is that the waters of Eagle Lake will soon be made available for irrigation purposes upon the lands of Honey Lake Valley, whether the government is induced to take action in the matter or not.
Private parties have been at work for several months in preliminary work, securing rights of way, preparing maps, and smoothing away existing difficulties, and there seems to be every assurance that the coming spring will witness the beginning of active work.
In fact, so much has already been done by the parties interested that, upon a showing, it is doubtful if the government would interfere, however desirable such action might be.
|
|
|
|
In any event, the day that these waters are made available will witness the beginning of an era in Honey Lake Valley, in which the prosperity of the past and present will appear insignificant.
