LASSEN COUNTY NEWS
The Holidays, Fine Weather and Gold
January 5th, 1887
The annual week of festivities is past and the town is settling down to the duties of every-day life. Rarely, if ever before was such beautiful spring like weather enjoyed at Christmas time in this valley.
During the week there was one day and two nights of warm rain, and Christmas and New Year's days were each warm and beautiful.
|
On Christmas eve a ball was given at Peyser's Hall for the benefit of the fire company here in town. It was a grand success, over 80 tickets having been sold.
The evening following, the children of the different departments of the public school here gave an entertainment in the same hall, which consisted of declamations, dialogues, singing, etc.
The hall was crowded to its fullest capacity by friends and relatives of the little ones, who, one and all rendered their parts with commendable credit to themselves and teachers.

Much prospecting has been done which has developed a number of gold-bearing mines that prospect well. A ten stamp mill has been erected and is now in operation, affording employment for quite a number of miners.
Game both large and small has been quite plenty in the county this winter and our local sportsmen have made some large killings. There has been some talk of connecting this place with the rest of the world by a telegraph line.
