Seals to Play in Lassen Game
September 6th, 1951

Big plans are under way for the San Francisco Seals — Susanville Merchants ball games and the major Shrine celebration here September 15th and 16th.

The Lassen Shrine club and Susanville Memorial Athletic association met and General Chairman R.L. Kemp, named committee heads for the affair, as follows; Seating, C.F. Hersey and Sherman Rea; parade, Dale Soule and Ed Padilla; children’s program, George McDow; ticket sale, R.J. Williams; housing, Susanville Chamber of Commerce; hospitality, Fred Abbey, H. L. McMurphy and Steve Sargent; town decoration, Dr. M.D. Covert.

The committee heads will select members from the two sponsoring organizations.

It was announced that the Seals of the Pacific Coast league will bring its entire ball club, except players on option to major league clubs. These vacancies will be filled by players from other coast league clubs. They will play the Susanville Merchants Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

The Merchants pounded out win after win this weekend in Memorial Park, taking an entire three-game series from Double Play Inn of San Francisco.  It was a revenge series for the Merchants, who dropped two out of three games to Double Play over Labor Day last year.

Run totals when the dust had settled were 12 to 2 Saturday night, 12 to 11 in a close Sunday night contest, and 9 to 6 Monday afternoon.
