Legion Group in Gathering
September 25th, 1958
With a clang of bells and toot of whistles, the 40 and 8 locomotive of Voiture No. 799, Susanville, pulled up recently at La Mesa Motel in Susanville, to pick up Chapeau Nell Brown and Demi – Chapeau Pauline Charlet and their departmental guests of La Simeauplue Salon 8 and 40.
Dressed as lumberjacks, they were taken on a wild ride through the streets of Susanville.
Returning to the motel, they were joined by a delegation from the Departmental of Nevada, dressed as old-time dance-hall girls. They were then conducted to the home of Lola Worrell where an old fashioned Lumberjack Jamboree was in progress.
Following a hearty lumberjack dinner, the more serious part of the meeting took place.
The 40 et 8 and 8 and 40 are the honor societies of the American Legion and the Auxiliary and are dedicated to service, fun, and fellowship; the service being prevention of and care for tuberculosis in children.
