Coronation of Lena Long as the 1902 Fair Queen in front of the Elks Lodge at the top of Main Street

Pageant to Depict History of Lassen
Hundreds of People to Take Part in Re-Creation of Pioneer Days
Friday at the Fair , 1924

Lassen County’s colorful history is to be portrayed for the first time this Saturday by a pageant as one of the features of the annual Lassen county fair.

The pageant will be under the direction of the Monticola Club and American legion auxiliary of Susanville, and has been written by Miss Lenala Martin, county librarian.

Several hundred actors will be used in the production, with authentic pioneer vehicles and equipment.

The story will begin with the first inhabitants of Lassen county, the Indians, and follow through the exciting days of exploration, settlement, political and Indian wars to the present age of industrial development and modern advantages. A period of approximately 75 years of history will be paraded before the eyes of the spectators.

A.M. Fairfield’s well known book on the history of Lassen county will be closely followed in writing the pageant. Famous characters, such as Peter Lassen, Governor Roop and Susan Arnold, for whom Susanville was named, will be shown in leading parts. Chief Winnemucca, the famous Piute Indian leader of the early days, will also be portrayed.

It is planned to have the pageant at night in the ball park, where lights can be arranged and seating arrangements made for a large crowd.
